The Lycée International de Los Angeles was founded in 1978 by a small group of people from French, American and other backgrounds and cultures, led by Monique Mickus. They felt that they needed a school that would properly prepare their children for life in an increasingly international environment.
Because the majority of the founders had a French background, the French international educational system was the anchor upon which they based the school's curriculum.
The school opened in a small house in Van Nuys with only seven students. Some 30 years later, the school has grown to five campuses with more than 900 students and has earned an enviable reputation with its placement of graduates in French universities, grandes écoles and within the American university system.
Of the original 1978 founders, two are still on the Board of Trustees. Others have joined the Board which now renews itself regularly. By combining those who have been Trustees for years with new Trustees bringing a fresh perspective, the Board is prepared to meet the 21st century with both maturity and vigor.
Le Lycée International de Los Angeles a été fondé en 1978 par un groupe de 10 personnes, d’origines et de cultures variées. Ces fondateurs voulaient préparer leurs enfants à la vie d’un monde de plus en plus international. Comme la majorité des membres du groupe étaient d’origine française, le cursus de l’école a été orienté dès le début vers un système éducatif français.
L’école a ouvert ses portes dans une maison à Van Nuys avec 7 élèves. Plus de 30 ans après, le LILA compte 4 campus, plus de 900 élèves et l’établissement a gagné une solide réputation grâce aux études supérieures que ses élèves ont suivies, aussi bien dans les Grandes Ecoles françaises que dans les plus célèbres universités américaines. Deux des fondateurs d’origine sont encore membres du conseil d’administration. D’autres se sont joints au conseil qui se renouvelle maintenant régulièrement. Le Conseil d’Administration, composé des pionniers de l’école et de nouveaux membres apportant de nouvelles visions, est prêt à faire face au 21ème siècle avec maturité et vigueur.
