Students at the Lycée International are taught to read, write and speak both French and English by the end of their elementary education. However, we aim to offer more than the mere knowledge of two languages. Our goal is to offer a bicultural program.
To achieve this goal, we specifically avoid dividing students into sections based upon their dominant language. Indeed, at the very foundation of our educational program is a policy of integration: young Americans must be integrated into French classes and French children must study English along with their American classmates.
Thus, by getting to know one another, our students are able to appreciate both French and American cultures; they are able to compete in both systems; they are able to feel at home in an American living room and à l’aise at a French dinner table.
Students of the Lycée International become citizens of two worlds.
Les élèves du LILA apprennent lire, écrire et parler en français et en anglais. Cependant, nous voulons offrir plus que la connaissance de deux langues. Notre but est d’offrir un programme biculturel. C’est pourquoi nous ne séparons pas les élèves francophones des élèves anglophones. La base même de notre système éducatif est une politique d’intégration. Les jeunes américains doivent être intégrés dans les classes françaises et les jeunes français doivent étudier l’anglais avec leurs camarades américains. Ainsi, en faisant connaissance, nos élèves peuvent apprécier à la fois la culture française et la culture américaine; ils peuvent réussir dans les deux systèmes; ils sont aussi à l’aise dans une American Home que dans une famille française. Les élèves du LILA deviennent citoyens de deux mondes.
